The Next Big Thing Blog Roll….

Posted: January 2, 2013 in Pursued

Last week, Golden Crown Literary Award Winner Robin Summers tagged me for “The Next Big Thing” blog roll. Her blog, Scribes and Stargazers, can be found at http://blog.robinsummerswriting.com. The Blog’s rules are simple: authors answer questions about their current project or upcoming work, and then tag other authors to do the same the following week. So without further ado…

What is the working title for your next book?
My current book, Pursued, came out just a couple of weeks ago. It’s about a college junior, Jamie, who a party and becomes involved with two men at the same time. One is the man of his dreams; the other is a man of his nightmares and a police officer. And Jamie’s hell begins.

My next book, Deadly Cult, comes out this August. Jamie, the hero of Pursued, is now the pursuer when he receives a mysterious package containing a class ring from his alma mater, Stratburgh University and the name of an ultra-conservative religious cult based in the Adirondack Mountains. To solve the mystery, Jamie and his husband, Eddie Delgado, infiltrate the cult and discover a paramilitary-style inner circle hell-bent on making the cult’s beliefs everyone’s beliefs.

Where did the idea for Pursued come from?
Pursued was born from the crime section of the newspaper. A few years ago, a closeted police officer killed his college-student lover because the cop was afraid of being outed. I asked myself what would happen if the cop not only was afraid of being outed, but also had a sadistic need control his lover. What if that cop had many lovers in the past? And what if one of his victims fought back? The plot for Pursued took off from there.

What genre does your book fall under?
Pursued is a Mystery/Suspense/Thriller.

What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?
This was a fun question to think about!

Nicholas HoultNicholas Hoult, the young lover in A Single Man, would play Jamie. He will be playing the lead Zombie in the upcoming film, Warm Bodies.

Chris HemsworthChris Hemsworth, the actor who played the god of thunder, Thor, would play the cop.

Evan RossDiana Ross’ son and Up-and-coming actor Evan Ross would play Jamie’s best friend, Eddie.

What is the one-sentence synopsis of Pursued?
The man of his dreams becomes the man of his nightmares.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
Bold Strokes Books is the publisher of both Pursued and Deadly Cult.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?
Pursued took a year to complete. Deadly Cult’s first draft came in a scant nine months.

What other books of the same genre would you compare yours with?
Pursued and Deadly Cult is classic Noir fiction. My favorite definition for noir is literature that satisfies the desire to pick up a rock and look at the icky, crawly things underneath. Masters of Noir are Dashiell Hammett , author of The Maltese Falcon, and James M. Cain, author of The Postman Always Rings Twice.

The Maltese FalconThe Postman Always Rings Twice

Who or what inspired you to write this book?
The inspiration for Pursued came from the student’s murder by the closeted cop. In real-life, he was a victim. I wanted to take control of his life and have him become a hero.
